
Largo Raises Camp FeesBy Bill LopezLARGO - The Largo Commission passed an ordinance on a first reading that raises fees for camps and other Largo recreational services. A second reading is scheduled for November 4. The Recreation, Parks and Arts Department reviewed the summer camp fees and recommended a range for resident and nonresident weekly rates for the Highland, Southwest and Specialty camps. This range allows staff the flexibility to charge a fee appropriate per camp in order to recover 100% of the costs for each camp. The staff also recommended increasing the summer camp after care for the Highland Camp by $2 per week for residents and $2.50 per week for nonresidents. The after care summer program at Highland utilizes the Highland Family Aquatic Center several times per week. The fee increase will equitably cover the cost of the aquatic center. Summer camp rates must be established by December 1 in order to be published in the January Play! Magazine and the summer camp brochure, which is also distributed in January. The following rate changes were recommended by staff:
