
Clearwater Women Crowned National Champions at USTA
Photo Credit: USTA INDIAN WELLS, CA – The women’s team from Clearwater, representing the USTA Florida Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 4.0 Senior National Championships held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. The Clearwater team defeated a team from Lexington, Ky., 2-1 in the Championship match. Earlier in the day, the Clearwater team defeated a team from Port Chester, N.Y., 2-1 in the semifinals. They advanced this far by winning their round-robin flight contested Friday and Saturday with a record of 3-0. The team is captained by Anne Pulley and features Turtle Marshall, Linda Miller, Ria Graham, Susan Hobbs, Ann Worthington, Marion Murch, Henriette Skoczen, Joanne Valone and plays at public courts throughout the city of Clearwater. The top four teams in order of finish are: Clearwater, Fla.; Lexington, Ky.; Port Chester, N.Y.; and Portola, Calif.
