International Family Group Cites Eight Critical Reasons to Support Traditional Marriage

GILBERT, AZ: Family Watch International (FWI), an international organization that works to promote and defend man/woman marriage, the family and family values, has released a new policy brief that gives eight fundamental reasons to preserve traditional marriage. The six-page document clearly and succinctly makes the case for marriage based solely on social science research and data, the lessons of history and recent developments in countries and states that have already legalized same-sex marriage. It is available online at http://www.familywatchinternational.org/fwi/policy_brief_manwomanmarriage.pdf

“As millions of Americans in Arizona, California and Florida go to the polls to vote on state constitutional marriage amendments, we felt it was essential for them to understand that this is not simply a moral or religious issue,” explained FWI president Sharon Slater. “There are solid reasons for defending traditional man/woman marriage regardless of your moral or religious beliefs.”

The policy brief briefly discusses these reasons to preserve man/woman marriage:

  1. Legalizing same-sex marriage severs children from their right to know and be raised by their biological parents.
  2. Legalizing same-sex marriage encourages the creation of children through reproductive arrangements that are not in their best interest.
  3. More children will be taught against their parents’ wishes that homosexuality is healthy and normal.
  4. When rights for same-sex couples are expanded, freedom of speech and religion is threatened as citizens are coerced to act against their conscience and beliefs.
  5. Wherever same-sex marriage is legalized, promoting motherhood and fatherhood could legally be considered discriminatory.
  6. Promiscuity in marriage will become more generally accepted.
  7. There already are disturbing social impacts where same-sex marriage has been legalized.
  8. Legalizing same-sex marriage may not even be good for homosexuals.

“The brief makes the case that legalizing same-sex marriage may not help the very group it is intended to help while at the time it creates problems for children,” Slater said. “Whether we protect this critical, time tested social institution will have a profound impact on future generations. There is no more important issue Americans will be voting on in November.”

Family Watch International advocates for the family and family values solely on the basis of social science data, history and common sense and not on moral or religious grounds.
