GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club Luncheon Educates Community About Domestic ViolenceThe annual Faces of Domestic Violence Awareness Luncheon is designed to educate our community about domestic violence, its impact on all areas of life and the social change needed to end domestic violence. The event took place on October 21at the Harborview Center in Clearwater. The luncheon featured keynote speaker Jackie Pierce, General Federation of Women’s Clubs 2006-2008 International President. During her tenure as president Jackie promoted awareness and prevention of domestic violence as the main project of the GFWC. Every year there are over ten thousand reports of domestic violence in Pinellas County. Additionally, domestic violence costs American businesses $727 million annually in lost productivity. Everyone was invited to this very important event to raise awareness about domestic violence, and business leaders especially were encouraged to come to learn how they can make a difference. Although the cost of the event was underwritten, donations were accepted at the event to benefit The Haven of RCS Domestic Violence Center which provides safe shelter, legal advocacy, and outreach services for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Over $10,000 was donated to this facility.
