Photos/text by SANDI FAHY

Students in Michelle Brennan's 4th grade classroom sport red wrist bands in support of Red Ribbon Week at North Ward Elementary School in Clearwater last week. Student Council representatives Mariah Zupan, on the left, and Diana Gonzalez hold two of the many posters promoting "Hugs, Not Drugs" and containing messages such as "Don't Monkey Around with Drugs" that were seen around the school October 27-31. Other Red Ribbon Week activities included a day on which all students were encouraged to wear red as well as a "Silly Sock Day" and an "Inside Out Day".

North Ward Elementary School art teacher Amanda Fisher took her students outside for a sidewalk chalk art project during Red Ribbon Week. Above, a group of fifth graders begins work on a giant red ribbon in front of the school. From left, they are Antwon Patterson, Hector Mezquite, Isaac Jorge and Froso Koutsoumbaris.
