Bulls Advance To Semifinals, Host Notre Dame Friday Night

TAMPA – Thanks to the scoring of senior forward Jordan Seabrook, the USF men’s soccer team will be a host and competitor in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals next weekend at USF Soccer Stadium.

USF defeated Georgetown, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championships Sunday afternoon at USF Soccer Stadium.  Seabrook tallied both USF goals and ensured the Bulls’ second appearance in the BIG EAST final four.  The other appearance came in 2005.

The No. 16/10 Bulls will face No. 13/11 Notre Dame on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern in the second game of the semifinals. The first game of the semifinals will pit No. 3/5 St. John's against DePaul at 5 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 16, at Noon with an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on the line.

“I thought it was a very good win,” said USF head coach George Kiefer. “You have got to tip your hats to Georgetown, they made the game very difficult. They are a very good team and deserve a spot in the NCAA Tournament.”

It marks the third time in Seabrook’s career that he has scored two goals in a game.  The other two occasions came against UCF (2007) and Stetson (2006).  Seabrook has scored the Bulls last three goals, including the game winner in the regular season finale against Rutgers.

“It feels great to get the win and advance to the semifinals,” said Seabrook. “To get a big win on our home turf and to play as well as we did, helps build a lot of confidence for the next round.”

USF outshot Georgetown 17-11 overall and 7-5 on goal. Senior midfielder Jason Devenish led USF with three shots on the day, including a bicycle kick that sailed just high of the post.

Tickets for the final two rounds of the BIG EAST Championship at USF Soccer Stadium can be purchased at the gate at 4 p.m. on Friday. One ticket is good for both games. Group tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-GoBulls.
