Annual Carlisle Classic Championship Regatta To Be Held HereAnne McKay GarrisA different sort of athlete will walk the streets, and sail the waters, of Clearwater Beach next week-end. There will be no traffic detours or tie-ups when the annual Carlisle Classic Championship Regatta is hosted by the Clearwater Community Sailing Center on Sand Key on November 15 and 16. Sailors and their families from all over will be on hand to participate in races for fleets of boats with the intriguing names of Big Fish, Sunfish, Lasers, Daysailers, A-Cat, 1-20s, 420s and Opti Prams. There will also be open races, called Open Portsmouths where boats of all designs will compete against each other. Furthermore, one fleet, called Access Dinghies, will be skippered by people you would not expect to see in a boat. These are people whose physical conditions require special equipment to enable them to sail. Registration will begin on Friday at the Sailing Center with the first race at 12 Noon. On Sunday, races will begin at 10:00 am and trophies will be awarded at the conclusion of the races. The smaller boats will race in Clearwater Bay, south of Memorial Causeway and the larger ones in the Gulf, weather permitting. Watch for them. Sailboats under sail are a joy to behold.
