Tightening Up on Water Restrictions

CLEARWATER -– The Southwest Florida Water Management District has passed additional water restrictions in response to the lingering drought conditions in our region. In addition to continuing to restrict lawn watering to one day per week and prohibiting watering from 8:01 a.m. to 5:59 p.m., the new water shortage order calls for local governments to strictly enforce the rules. The original order and these modifications will be in effect through February 27, 2009

Major changes affecting City of Clearwater Utilities customers include the following:

  • Establishment period for new plant material for lawns is daily watering for 30 days, and every-other-day watering for days 31-60, as needed.
  • Low-volume irrigation devices may not be used between 8:01 a.m. and 5:59 p.m.
  • Hand watering of any type of plant material may not occur between 8:01 a.m. and 5:59 p.m.
  • Aesthetic fountains and waterfalls may be operated only four hours per day.
  • All observed violations will be issued a citation.
