Police K9 Memorial to be Dedicated

LARGO – On Friday, December 5, at 4 p.m., city officials will unveil a Police K9 Memorial Statue in Largo Central Park (near the Rotary playground).

A ceremony will take place honoring past and present Largo Police Department K9 handlers and their partners from Office Bennett and K9 King in 1974 through Officer Scott Brown and K9 Bear in 2007. A total of twenty-eight current and retired Largo Police Department K9 handlers have been invited and many will be in attendance.

The Police K9 Memorial Statue was bought by money donated by employees of the City of Largo. The statue will proudly be dedicated to the efforts of Largo’s past and present Largo Police Department K9 Teams.

In addition to the Largo Police Department’s Honor Guard and a demonstration by a current K9 Team, there will be several esteemed guests to include: Largo Mayor Pat Gerard, Largo City Commissioners, City Manager Mac Craig, Police Chief Aradi and Police Deputy Chief Carroll. In addition many past K9 Handlers will be traveling from far away to be present for the dedication.
