
Short Story and Drawing Contest Winners at Largo Public LibraryLARGO - Largo Public Library announced the winners of the 25th Annual Stanley Shalit Short Story Competition for grades 4-5, sponsored by the Friends of the Largo Library, at the December 4th ceremony. Library Assistant Director Steve Bumgarner and Largo Mayor Pat Gerard were on hand to congratulate the winners and present the awards. This year's theme was “Window on the World,” and more than 170 entries were received from public, private and home-schooled students. First place was awarded to Sarah Bogart of Curtis Fundamental Elementary. She received $100 and an engraved plaque. Second place and a $75 award went to Lexa Armstrong of Ridgecrest Elementary. Third place and a $50 award went to Jaya Ahmad Nair of James B. Sanderlin Elementary. The following students received honorable mention and a $20 award: Jonathan Eric Moreno, Nicholas Pero, Jeffrey M. Stott, Ethan Burkhalter and Erin King, all from Curtis Fundamental. On Friday, December 5th, the library held their 2nd Annual Stanley Shalit K-3 Drawing Contest, sponsored by the Friends of the Largo Library. The theme this year was “Window on the World” and was open to all public, private and home schooled children in kindergarten to third grade. Library Director Casey McPhee, and Largo Mayor Pat Gerard were on hand to congratulate the winners and award their certificates and prizes. All twelve finalists' pictures are on display for the month of December in the library's Art Gallery. First place certificates and $25 cash prizes were awarded to Mitchell Lewis, kindergarten of Admiral Farragut Academy; Kyle Wadley, 1st grade of Admiral Farragut Academy; Annie Vo, 2nd grade of Cross Bayou Elementary and Hannah Kimble, 3rd grade of Cross Bayou Elementary. Second prize winners received a certificate and $15 cash prize and third place winners received a certificate and a $10 cash prize. A bookmark is available in the library featuring grand prize winner Annie Vo's picture, along with the names of all the drawing contest finalists, The bookmarks will be sent to Annie's elementary school to distribute to all her fellow students. Largo Public Library is located at 120 Central Park Drive.
