Downtown Dunedin Shines for the Holiday Season“Operation Twinkle” 2008 Winners SelectedDUNEDIN - Downtown Dunedin is a feast for the eyes and a joy for the soul this winter holiday season. When the sun goes down, the city is not only illuminated by electric bulbs atop its street lights but each pole has been adorned for the holidays. Before a professional crew took on the task of bedecking the poles with strands of garland and lights, members of the community had the opportunity to adopt one or more poles and personally decorate them. With thirty-three businesses and civic organizations participating in “Operation Twinkle,” judges had an especially difficult task is determining this year’s pole decorating contest winners. The contestants were evaluated based upon two categories, Best Themed Pole and Best Holiday Spirit, as well as Best Overall. Kina Kouture received the 3rd place ribbon in the Theme Category by transforming their light pole into an illuminated dress mannequin complete with a grand chapeau. The Dunedin Firefighter’ Wives Club captured 2nd place with their display of pump, hose and a bevy of red fire fighters’ hats. The American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary claimed the blue ribbon with its patriotic and touching theme of “Flander’s Field.” The 3rd place selection for Holiday Spirit was awarded to Ocean Optics for their gift box display. The 2nd place winner in this category was the beautiful celestial angel created by Raspberries. The 1st place winner for Holiday Spirit went to Purple Moon for their artistic winter theme and arch. The 1st place trophy for Best Overall in 2008 was awarded to Global Market Consultants, Inc. for their Christmas tree and Scottish Santa in kilts. The public is invited to come to Downtown Dunedin during December and stay until after dark to delight in the radiant transformation of our city.
