Senator Mike Fasano and Representative Peter Nehr Request Elimination of Rate IncreasesST. PETERSBURG – Due to the economic status of the state of Florida, State Representative Peter Nehr (R-Tarpon Springs) and Senator Mike Fasano (R-New Port Richey), have requested the utility company, Progress Energy Florida, to suspend indefinitely the “advanced recovery cost,” which is to become effective January of 2009. Next month almost all the constituents in their districts and many other districts in Florida will see an approximate 25% rise in their utility bills due to a combination of ‘fuel increases’ and an ‘advance cost recovery’ fee for two new nuclear power plants that will not be online for approximately ten years. Florida, Rep. Nehr and Sen. Mike Fasano believe the costs of building the power plants should be the responsibility of the shareholders and possible investment partners.
