Dunedin Fire Department Selects Fire Fighter of the Year

On Thursday, December 18, Dunedin Fire Chief C. “Bud” Meyer presented the Dunedin Fire Fighter of the Year Award at the Dunedin City Commission Meeting located in Dunedin City Hall.   This prestigious award is significant because the award recipient is chosen by his or her peers.

Dunedin Fire Fighters are very proud to recognize the Dunedin Fire Department Fire Fighter of the Year Fire Fighter Craig Brown. Craig is frequently assigned as a Driver Engineer and also in the capacity of Acting Lieutenant. Craig’s Peers cited his positive attitude, calm demeanor, caring skill and professional leadership.  On one call in particular Brown was responsible as an Acting Lieutenant for coordinating the Structure Fire Attack as well as caring for a badly burned patient and following the call making sure the crew had been debriefed following this tragic event. A serious structure fire can be an extremely stressful chaotic event and in this instance Craig Brown responded to this event with great strength and made sure it was handled in a professional caring and expeditious manner.

Brown was also cited for his day-to-day dedication and attention to detail. Craig Brown is also mentor, teacher, and a positive example of a great professional fire Fighter. Brown frequently is assigned to Dunedin’s busiest engine company and is a great role model for our new fire fighters they credit Craig’s energy and enthusiasm for the job with making others want to perform at higher levels and increase their skills.  The nine-year veteran fire fighter is frequently at the lead of extra curricular event s such as the Fire Department pen House, Muscular Dystrophy Association Fund Drive, Pre-Fire Planning Sessions and other department activities. Craig Brown is a truly deserving award recipient and many of his peers were present to share the moment with his family, the Dunedin Mayor and City Commission as the 2008 Dunedin Fire Fighter of the Year.
