Largo Fire and Rescue Donates to Children’s Burn Foundationby Bill LopezLARGO- Fire Chief Wallace presented a ceremonial check for $3,817 to the Children's Burn Foundation that was raised during fire prevention week. Regional Coordinator, Irene Gaccek accepted the check on behalf of the foundation and thanked the Firefighters Union for their generosity. She also thanked the volunteers who were Burn Buddies at the Florida Burn Camp for children that is sponsored by the Children's Burn Foundation. The City of Largo and Largo Fire Rescue annually recognize and commemorate Fire Prevention Week with an open house at Fire Station 41. Nine years ago, the First Annual Chili Cook-Off Contest was held during the open house, and since then the Cook Off has generated more interest each year. Teams compete for various awards while generating donations to benefit children with burn injuries. Over the years, Largo residents have enjoyed the Chili Cook Off and have been very generous in their support of the Fire Rescue Department and the effort to help children with burn injuries. The Florida Burn Camp is a place where children ages 5 through 16 gather for fun, to develop new friendships and realize that other children have had similar burn experiences.
