Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

Being helpful to our community is the first of many reasons to volunteer at the Clearwater Beach Library. There are at least seven others.

Second, you work in a pleasant room, with a beautiful view, in the midst of people who share your liking of books and movies, reading and learning.

Third, you recognize movies you have loved, or ones that arouse your interest as you place DVDs and videos back in their accustomed places.  In this way I have found several old favorites I wanted to see again, but had forgotten the title.

Fourth, as you replace the returned books into their spots on the shelves, you may find a new topic, or a new author that interests you.

Fifth, sorting out the returned books and which branch library they belong to is a good brain exercise and easy exercise as you shuffle them from the computer desk into their return bags.

Sixth, if you like to read you find a great smorgasbord of delicious stories to choose from, with the privilege of glancing through them to see if you really want to take them home for a longer visit.

Seventh, you run into old friends, or meet new ones as you interact with the library patrons.

Eighth, you know you are needed and appreciated for your efforts.

It's easy to volunteer, simply stop by, put your name on the calendar, or call 562-4970 to ask when you are needed. Library hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
