Sidney Bayne Speaks at Rotary Club of Clearwater
Attorney John Slaughter, Sidney Bayne, Image Consultant, Doug Hilkert, President Rotary Club of Clearwater Sidney Bayne, Image Consultant and member of the Rotary Club of Clearwater, spoke recently at the weekly Wednesday noon meeting of the Rotary club at the Belleair Country Club. Attorney John Slaughter introduced Bayne, indicating that she has spoken to corporations nationally, in other countries and recently returned from a visit to Dubai. Bayne discussed, “What Not to Say, Do or Wear.” Bayne said that we instantly are judged by the first impression that we make. People are attracted to, have respect for and trust people who dress well, communicate effectively and demonstrate appropriate behavior. We've all heard that one never gets a second chance to make a first impression. In reality, one never gets a second chance to make a positive first impression. Knowing the proper way to present yourself can make the difference between getting ahead and getting left behind. And as business has become more competitive, corporate leaders are looking to those individuals who know how to conduct themselves with class and style, and prefer to select those employees with social polish and confidence to represent their companies in public. Clients tend to trust individuals whose presence parallels or is above their own. Bayne related stories of individuals applying for jobs who did not wear appropriate clothes, did not conduct themselves as knowledgeable about the company they were seeking employment in, and when invited to lunch, did not seem to have acceptable eating habits. She explained the importance of knowing the customs of foreign countries one visits and the customs or routines of people with whom they would be working. Bayne finished with humor as she related that for Christmas, if your wife says, “There is no need to exchange gifts.” That translates to and means, you had better get her a great gift, and that you can expect a tie.
