Letter sent to Clearwater Mayor and City Council

I am sending this comment from a computer at the Clearwater Main Library. I come here often, before and after enjoying our beautiful beaches. I am a published author and will be participating in an author event at this library on 2/22. I have a college degree and am an honorably discharged veteran.

I can’t believe the City of Clearwater allows all these homeless people to literally inhabit the library and the surrounding grounds. On more than one occasion, I have had to get up and leave a computer because a homeless person that smells like urine has sat next to me. Why am I the one that has to leave? I have money and purchased goods in Clearwater, the taxes on which support the library. These people do not. Yet, I have to leave? Although I was in the military and can handle myself, I am not going to confront any of these folks and cause a bigger problem in a public building.

Families come to the events in the park. They bring their children and pets. Having these homeless people constantly around detracts from the venues. They seem to have the run of the place and that isn’t right. Isn’t there anything CPD or the city can do about this?
