
Bravura Brunch to Benefit the Florida OrchestraThe 14th Bravura Brunch being held in the Heye Room of Ruth Eckerd Hall on March 14 at 11 a.m., will highlight Karl Bawel, principal violist of the Florida Orchestra; and pianist Kevin Johnson, well-known music director of the St. Alfred’s Episcopal Church playing Gershwin melodies with interesting commentary on his short but productive life. Karl Bawel has been a member of the Florida Orchestra for over 27 years as well as performing in solo recitals throughout the Tampa Bay area. He has performed with the Arioso String Quartet in the Ruth Eckerd Hall Concert Series, and with the Arioso String Quartet throughout the United States and Europe. He regularly performs solo recitals at St. Alfred’s Episcopal Church in Palm Harbor, teaches privately and with the Pinellas Youth Symphony, and coaches string students in Pinellas County Schools. Kevin Johnson, a native of western New York, studied Organ and Music Education in New York and Illinois with internationally well known concert and recording artist, Wolfgang Rubsam. He has been the organist and choirmaster at St. Alfred’s Episcopal Church, Palm Harbor since 2000 where he directs three choirs- The Cambridge Ringers, St. Alfred’s Youth Choir, and Parish Choir of Adults. He has initiated several concerts as part of the yearly music program there. He maintains a private piano studio. Currently he is studying viola with Karl Bawel.
