
Budget Priority Session Scheduled in Largoby Bill LopezLARGO -- A budget prioritization session is scheduled in Largo to take place on Tuesday, February 24, at Noon in the Jenkins Room of the Largo Public Library. Dr. Bob Lee will facilitate this session that is open to the public. Participants will include the City Commission, City Administration and Department Directors. The purpose of this session is to seek policy direction from the City Commission to guide staff for the next 3 to 4 years on issues that influence the budget. This direction will help align the City Manager's future budget proposals to the City Commission's priorities. The staff indicated in a commission work session Tuesday that the agenda will include and updated review of the general fund, results of the community round table workshops, statewide budgetary influences, budget challenges faced by the city, a review of revenues, fees and taxes to fund city administration, levels of service and elements of the general plan that will be revised in 2010. Mayor Pat Gerard mentioned that review of staffing, wages and salaries for all city departments is very crucial at this time and should be covered in the meeting. At the conclusion of the budget session, staff plans to development a list of budget priorities that will help guide budgeting in the City of Largo for the next several years. The meeting will begin at noon with a light lunch served for meeting participates and a small number of spectators. However, the commission cautioned that food could not be provided for a large public turnout.
