Ladies Auxiliary VFW Honors Kathy Roman
Kathy Roman Florida’s President Kathy Roman of Clearwater, a member of Higgins-Sutherland Memorial Auxiliary #1658, was honored during the National Mid-Year Conference of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. She is one of 50 State Presidents who achieved the goal of 85% membership by December 31, 2008. At a special reception, National President Dixie Hild of Omaha Neb., honored each with a medallion recognizing her leadership. The event took place at the Marriott Savannah Riverfront, Savannah, GA, with more than 300 members from throughout the country in attendance. The 562,892 members of the nationwide organization are wives, mothers, daughters, and other female relatives of those who have served overseas during a war. As when the organization began in 1914, serving veterans continues to be its major goal. Supporting America’s active-duty military personnel by shipping care packages and sending them free long-distance telephone cards are just two of the ways the organization serves them today.
