Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin Provides Special Opportunities for Local Foster teens

CLEARWATER - On Tuesday, March 24, The Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin (JLCD) provided a Salon Night for 27 teenage girls at Shear Delight salon in Belleair Bluffs.  This event was planned for local girls in the foster care system who benefited from an evening of pampering and personal attention.  Salon owner Dale Mettler, and stylist, Jane Russell, donated their time and use of their facility for this special night.  Dale’s daughter, Mallory, and nine members of JLCD also volunteered their help.  The girls received free haircuts and styles, mini-facials, dinner and a bag of personal care goodies to take home with them.

The Salon Night was a part of the League’s focus on foster families in Pinellas and Pasco Counties.  The next event planned is a Youth Summit & Life Skills Course for foster teens aged 13-17.  It will be hosted at the Clearwater campus of St. Petersburg College on Saturday, March 28.  The Life Skills Course is an all day event featuring motivational speaker Ian Hill, and lessons in skills such as resume writing, personal finance and interviewing.  If you would like to donate items, gift cards or make a monetary donation for these or future events, please contact Community ANGELS Chair, Diane Manuel, at dianepilkington@hotmail.com or the JLCD office at 727-738-5523.
