Largo Hosts Festival of the Arts

Photos/text by SANDI FAHY

Artist Patrick Gaughan, far left, meets a group of students from the Pinellas County Transitions and Creative Clay program at the Festival of the Arts: Art and Floral Competition and Show at the Largo Community Center on February 27. The students, standing from left, are Jeremy, Chris and Adam. Kneeling, from left, are Jessica, Cindy and Gillian. Also pictured are teachers Ms. Kanaan and Ms. Bikoff. The group was admiring the painting at back, which was created by a student of Gaughan's at the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranch. Gaughan teaches art at the Youth Ranch, where he also entertains the children with storytelling and magic shows. The works of some of his other students were also on display along with a number of Gaughan's own paintings.

Don Koeller's "Flower Float Train" was sure to capture the attention of those attending the recent Festival of the Arts: Art and Floral Competition and Show at the Largo Community Center. The train featured a variety of spring flowers. At back, a mini Irish train travels the track which surrounds a tree decorated with a giant shamrock and green ornaments in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Koeller's other creations include a Christmas train, "Happy Day" train, holiday train and dancer train.
