Japanese Students Tour Clearwater

The above pictured 11 middle school students, two teachers and guide from Nagano, Japan, were welcomed to the Clearwater Main Library by Rita Garvey, former mayor of the City of Clearwater (back row, fourth from left) on March 26. The group is visiting Clearwater as part of the city's Sister City Exchange Program. While at the library, they viewed the exhibit of Japanese inspired fiber art by textile artist June Colburn in the Carnegie Gallery and the Sister Cities Collection on display in the Special Collections area. Visiting a local middle school, where the students will observe classes and give presentations on life in Japan, is also on the agenda. Clearwater, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its sister city relationship with Nagano this year, will be hosting a lantern festival in downtown Clearwater on April 25 to commemorate the anniversary.
