Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin Pays Tribute to Longstanding Members

CLEARWATER - The Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin (JLCD) is a volunteer organization comprised of women whose collective desire is to improve the community in which they reside.  This organization has been a part of the Bay Area since 1948 and has relied on many women who have committed their time and expertise to fundraising and volunteer projects throughout those 60 years.  This year, the League is bringing back a fundraiser from the early years of the organization’s history called Moonlight in Monte Carlo.  This elegant casino night will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 7-11 p.m. at the Harborview Center in downtown Clearwater.

In 1972 the Dunedin Service League hosted Monte Carlo Night to benefit their new signature project, the Dunedin Fine Arts Center.  Many of the women who collaborated on this event are still a part of the League today.  This year’s event chairs Georgine Brancato, Event Chair, Michelle Rowland, Event Vice Chair, and Dawn Scott, Vice Chair, Food and Beverage have chosen to honor the efforts of those women by including them in the planning process for the 2009 event.  The League is proud to announce that the honorary chairs for Moonlight in Monte Carlo are: Sydney Entel, Marjorie Golden, Jeanette Hale, Toni Kovach, Patricia Lloveras, Betty Jean Moore, and Merilyn Williams.  “These women have had a positive impact on our community, and have touched the lives of women and children they may never meet, by raising funds and awareness for special needs right here at home,” commented Event Chair Georgine Brancato.  “We are lucky to have them in our organization and in our community.”

The honorary chairs will be part of the fun-filled night on Saturday, April 25, along with hundreds of community members who choose to take an active role in improving their community.  Moonlight in Monte Carlo will feature delectable fare from local restaurants, gaming tables, live entertainment, and dancing.  Reservations can be made now by contacting JLCD Office Manager Becky Cole at 727-738-JLCD or jlclwdun@aol.com.

Proceeds raised from this event will fund the current JLCD signature project, ANGELS.  ANGELS is an acronym for Alliance to Nurture, Grow, and Enhance Life Skills for Foster Families in North Pinellas and Pasco Counties and other League projects.  Sponsors of Moonlight in Monte Carlo include Spencer International Advisors, Inc., The Longley Group, Inc., Bollenback and Forret, CPA’s, Georgine and Anthony Brancato, The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, Felicia Leonard and Bruce Dennis, and Amy and Gary Connors.
