
Museum Director to Speak at Shell Club MeetingCLEARWATER – The Clearwater seashell club, Suncoast Conchologists, will hear Jose H. Leal, PhD, talk about seashells endemic to Florida’s southwest coast at its April meeting on the 7th. Dr. Leal is the Director of the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum located on Sanibel Island, Florida. He is also a past president of the American Malacological Society and is editor of The Nautilus, a 120-year-old journal dealing with malacology. A native of Brazil, Leal received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and his PhD from the University of Miami. His topic, “Shells of Florida’s Southwest Coast: deals with marine seashells that are commonly found between Clearwater on the north and Flamingo (at the tip of the Everglades) on the south. Refreshments and a short business meeting follow the presentation. The club meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, corner of Rainbow Drive and Hercules in Clearwater. Everyone is welcome.
