Clearwater Civitan-Challenger Little League Jamboree ScheduledCLEARWATER – Clearwater has been selected to host the prestigious “Florida Challenger Baseball Little League Jamboree.” The Challenger Little League Baseball program was established for boys and girls dealing with physical and/or mental disabilities. The organization really hit a home run when they were selected as the host city for this very special sports program! They will be welcoming several hundred players, parents and coaches from all across the State of Florida. You may be wondering, “What is Challenger Baseball?” Challenger Baseball is a program designed for kids with special needs. The kids participate in a sports environment structured for their success as well as safety. The kids are encouraged to always “Get off the bench and play!” The organization’s overall goal is to promote a “can-do” attitude, which encourages self-confidence. Players also benefit by being given the opportunity to sharpen their social and emotional skills. However most of all, the kids play baseball and have lots of fun! Organizers of Challenger Little League say that the program provides therapeutic and socialization benefits for the players. Coaches reinforce positivity and self-esteem while allowing the children an opportunity to enjoy the game of baseball along with millions of other Little Leaguers around the world. The program’s fundamental goal is to give everyone a chance to play, regardless of any special needs or limitations. Parents, coaches, siblings and teenagers act as “buddies” to assist the Challenger players run the bases, catch, throw, push wheelchairs and more. This program allows them to experience the joys of pulling together as a team, something many of us unfortunately take for granted. The organization plans to give these young VIP’s the red carpet treatment at this awesome Jamboree! Following a day of America’s favorite pastime, the event will commence with the Award ceremonies and then dance the night away. The “Challenger Little League Baseball Jamboree” will be played at Countryside Recreation Center and Sports Complex on May 2 and 3.
