IRB a Collection Site for Dangerous Materials

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – As part of the National Pollution Discharge Elimination Program, those who have products and chemicals to get rid of can bring them to the City Hall Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Substances to bring are automotive fluids, cleaners, fertilizers, fluorescent bulbs and other mercury containing devices, fungicides, herbicides, household batteries, paint (latex or oil), paint remover, paint thinner, pesticides, pool chemicals, solvents, wood preservatives, TVs, VCRs, cell phones, computers, copiers, digital cameras, fax machines, microwave ovens, monitors, printers, printer cartridges, stereo equipment, telephones, etc.

Do not bring appliances, biological or infectious waste, empty paint cans, explosives, fire extinguishers, garbage, propane tanks, radioactive waste, smoke detectors, vehicle batteries.

Some cautions – Do not mix chemicals together, keep products in original labeled containers if possible, place containers into cardboard boxes, use crumpled newspaper in boxes to provide cushioning and prevent breakage, place leaky containers in clear plastic bags and transport in boxes with newspaper, put boxes in the trunk or in back of vehicle away from passengers.
