Clearwater Marine Aquarium Wins 6 Public Relations Awards

CLEARWATER – Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) won six awards at the 2009 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA).

CMA earned one Image Award, three Judge’s Awards and two Awards of Distinction. The Image Awards competition recognizes companies that exhibit and employ comprehensive public relations projects that meet the highest standards of excellence in four components of PR programming: research, planning, execution and evaluation. An Image Award is presented to the top-scoring entry in each category.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium CEO David Yates said, “One of our goals at CMA has been to tell the story of the amazing work our staff and volunteers perform as they rescue marine life and educate the public. With the international attention CMA has had in recent years, I saw the need to expand our media work. With the hiring of Jeni Hatter as Director of Media in July 2008, we have been able to raise the bar, and these awards are a testament to her vision and skills.”

In the Special Events category, CMA won an Image award for the world premiere event of its documentary, “Winter, The Dolphin that Could.” The red carpet event was held at the Sandpearl Resort in December 2008.

In the News Release category, CMA won an Award of Distinction and Judge’s Award for teaming up with the Mike Alstott Foundation to make a dream come true for a local boy. Also in the same category, CMA won a Judge’s Award for its “Wedding of a Lifetime” contest.

In the Community Relations category, CMA won an Award of Distinction and Judge’s Award for its “Wedding of a Lifetime” contest.

CMA’s winning entries will now advance to FPRA’s statewide level of competition, the Golden Image Awards. Those awards will be announced on August 11 in Boca Raton.
