"Corporal Elvis", the Clearwater Police Department's robotic bear, attracts the attention of youngsters attending the 16th Annual Children's Health Fair at the Long Center in Clearwater on July 25. Clearwater Police volunteers, at back, from left, are Penny Dobson, Sidney Kaye, Harvey Huber and Pat McPhillips. The event, which was sponsored by area Kiwanis clubs, Civitan Club of Clearwater, AMBUCS, Sertoma and Zonta International, offered free back-to-school physicals, sports cardiovascular screenings, dental exams, vision screenings, spinal checks and immunization shots. Children and their parents were also treated to a free hot dog lunch.
Devon Hall, left, and Tanner Bailey of the American Red Cross Comet Program are ready to entertain at the Children's Health Fair at the Long Center on July 25. They are shown with puppets (l-r) Officer Goodman, Sally the Tommy Girl and Fred the Fire Dog. Members of the Comet Program, all high school students, take their water safety, fire safety, hand-washing and basic aid messages to elementary schools, day care centers and summer camps.
