Tutterow "Stars of Tomorrow" Receive Top Scores at Nationals

LARGO -The Tutterow "Stars of Tomorrow" Performance Company traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC for the Dance Theatre USA National Competition held July 20-24, 2009. The group consisted of 41 Tutterow dancers and their families.

The competition awards bronze, silver and gold metals for each routine based on the judge's overall scores. The Tutterow dancers received a total of 39 golds and six silvers at the competition.

After bronze, silver and gold metals are awarded, the routines are then placed overall in several performance categories. The highest scorers are then named 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Elite winners. The "Stars of Tomorrow" Juniors placed 1st in Solo, Duet & Group; 2nd in Duet, Group & Production; and 1st overall in Groups. The Seniors did just as great, placing 1st in Group, Line and Production; 2nd in Solo, Duet & Group; and 3rd overall in the Solo, Duet, Group & Line Category.

The Grand Prix Award, given to the highest scoring routine of all competing Juniors, as well as a $500 prize was awarded to the Tutterow Dancers for their "I Believe" lyrical routine. Tutterow's Studio Director, Debbie Kennedy, received the honor of Best Choreography for the routine.

"For me personally, Best Choreography is such a great honor. I am so very proud of all of our dancers. They really danced their hearts out!" said Debbie.

Scholarships for Dance Theatre USA were awarded to the following Tutterow Junior Dancers: Jessalyn Miller-Ballet, Taylor Torres and Amanda Vaughan-Tap, Brooke Zelinsky-Hip Hop and Emily Ritz-Tap.

Scholarships for Broadway Dance Center in NY were awarded to the following Tutterow Senior Dancers: AnnMarie White-Ballet, Jaclyn Street and Carson Aho-Hip Hop, Drew Robinson and Michael Brown-Tap.

The Tutterow Dancers have been a part of the Largo Recreation, Parks and Arts Department for the past 33 years. Students in the program come from all over Pinellas County.
