David Perkins Celebrates 90th Birthday at Rotary Club of Clearwater

David Perkins celebrated his 90th birthday recently at the Rotary Club of Clearwater, at the Belleair Country Club.

His wife, Betty Perkins, said she was glad that his birthday was the same day as his regular weekly meeting at the Rotary Club of Clearwater. Georgia, head waitress staff at the Belleair Club, made certain that two cakes and lighted candles were waiting. A standing ovation greeted David. Perkins holds the record for perfect attendance at the Rotary Club of Clearwater; 61 years.

Perkins was born in Camden SC, moved to Clearwater with his family in 1925, went to School at North Ward, and graduated Clearwater High School. He served 3 years in the Coast Guard during WW11. He furthered his education at the American Institute of Laundering and the National Institute of Dry Cleaning. Perkins owned and operated Clearwater Laundry for many years.

David Perkins is a Past President of his Rotary Club and has received every award his Rotary Club presents to recognize contributions to his club, his community, country, and in international service. He is a Paul Harris Fellow and is recognized for his support of his Rotary Club's Endowment for local community service. The Club's Perfect Attendance Award has recently been named in honor of David G. Perkins.

Perkins' hobbies have included sailing, collecting information relating to Clearwater's history, furniture restoration and traveling.
