Local Order Sons of Italy Chapter Sponsoring Christopher Columbus Essay Contest

CLEARWATER - The Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 are sponsoring an essay contest for middle school age students (Grades 6 - 8). The topic of the 500-750 word essay is "Why Should We Celebrate Columbus Day?"

Student must be in good standing attending a Pinellas County middle school, and the student does not have to be of Italian ancestry.

Students are encouraged to be creative in their writing, but follow the guidelines for correct grammar. The essay, typed or neatly and legibly written, must have a cover page with the student's full name and telephone number, school name, and grade. The essay must be postmarked no later than September 25th and sent to: Floretta Guanciale (1801 East Lake Rd., #17C; Palm Harbor, FL 34685) or email to: ggramfl@tampabay.rr.com. The winner will be notified by October 6 and invited to attend the lodge's annual luncheon on Saturday, October 10, at East Lake Woodlands Country Club. The winner will also read his/her essay and receive $50 and a Certificate of Excellence.
