Clearwater Announces March 2010 Commission Election CalendarBy Carl WagenfohrCLEARWATER -The run-up to Clearwater's March 9, 2010, City Council election starts next week according to a document released by City Clerk Cyndie Goudeau. September 10 is the first date candidates can obtain the Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository form at the Official Records and Legislative Services office on the 2nd floor of City Hall. Petition cards will be made available to the candidates after their form is filed with the City Clerk. The Candidate qualifying period begins on December 7th and ends on December 18th at 5PM. Candidates qualify to run for office by filing at least 250 petition cards signed by citizens registered to vote in City of Clearwater municipal elections. Following the election on March 9, the County Canvassing Board will certify results on March 12 and the Oath of Office administered to the winners on March 15th. Two Council Members will be elected next year. The seat currently occupied by Council Member Carlen Petersen will be vacated due to term limits. Vice Mayor Paul Gibson has announced his intention to seek reelection.
