Belleair Holds Rate to Current Level; Acts on Cypress

By Leo Coughlin

BELLEAIR - The Town Commission wrapped up the millage rate, budget, fire agreement with Largo and considered some traffic calming at last Thursday's meeting.

Despite a decline in some revenue, the commission kept the current millage of 4.3605 and approved a budget - when everything is included - of some $9 million. The general fund is about $4.5 million.

Capital projects and enterprise funds make up the balance of outlays.

Citizens on Cypress Avenue have been requesting something be done about traffic. They want a 20 mile an hour limit and speed bumps.

The commission, recognizing that a large part of the problem is that the road is being used as a cut through, agreed to make the speed limit 20 as a first step and will consider road humps later.

The request of Fred Thomas and his wife, Joy, that their problem be replatted is still in the works.

The Thomases have an adjoining lot that they want incorporated into another lot to make one plot.
