Children Encouraged to Apply for Hog Hunt Outings on District Land
The Southwest Florida Water Management District is providing children the opportunity to participate in one of two free youth hog hunts at the District's Edward W. Chance Reserve's Gilley Creek Tract in Manatee County.
The hog hunts are scheduled for Oct.17-18 and Oct. 24-25. All youth hunters must be accompanied by at least one adult. During both hunts, participants will use blinds. Dogs will not be used in either hunt.
Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Orlando and the group "American Disability Adventures" are partnering with the District on these events, which are open to children of all abilities.
Participants will be selected through an application process. Children ages 8 to 16 are encouraged to apply. Six boys and six girls will be selected for each hunt. Applications are available through the District's web site WaterMatters.org/recreation/kidshoghunt or by calling 1-800-423-1476, ext. 4470. Applications will also be available at the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, 5156 International Dr. in Orlando, or by contacting American Disability Adventures at firstname.lastname@example.org or 352-637-3747.
In addition to completing the application, prospective hunters must also submit a short essay, 50 words or less, on why they would like to be chosen. A panel of representatives from the District and the partner organizations will select the participants based on the essays.
The submission deadline is Oct. 5. Hunters will be notified by phone or email on Oct. 8.
