International Downtown Association Recognizes City Downtown Marketing EffortCLEARWATER - The International Downtown Association presented the city of Clearwater's Community Redevelopment Agency an Award of Distinction at its 55th annual conference in Milwaukee. The award was given for the city's active program to recruit new restaurant, retail and business enterprises to its recently redeveloped downtown now known as the Cleveland Street District. "This award validates our efforts to leverage the downtown streetscape improvements with businesses that strengthen the city's core," said Downtown Manager Courtney Orr. "Even in the current economy, we're beginning to see results as businesses renew their interest in the area and new restaurants open. We know we're doing something right." Clearwater's project competed with 77 award submissions the International Downtown Association received this year as part of its Downtown Achievement Awards. Founded in 1954, the International Downtown Association includes more than 650 member organizations worldwide whose network promotes and nurtures healthy and dynamic towns, cities and international regions.
