The Clearwater Branch of the YMCA of the Suncoast scheduled the first day of a weeklong open house on September 19 in celebration of America on the Move Week, a nationwide initiative designed to encourage families to take small steps toward a healthier way of life. Area residents were invited to stop by to work out, take a swim or try a class for free. Above, instructor Gail Spear, far left, directs a Latin Cardio class. Participants, at back from left, are Joyce Longo, Jane Delaney, Kay Mahoney, Richard Spear and Jennifer Ferguson. America on the Move events continue through September 26. Today, September 24, there's a water aerobics class at 4 p.m. and 15-minute fitness assessments from 7-9 p.m. Zumba is scheduled tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. You can also join Spear for another Latin Cardio workout on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. For further information, you may call 461-9622.

Participants in the Basketball Player/Family Track Walk are caught on camera following a basketball session at the Clearwater Branch of the YMCA of the Suncoast on September 19. Players and family members were taking part in the Y's America on the Move Week initiative, which challenged individuals and families to take 2,000 more steps and consume 100 less calories in their daily routines to improve and maintain their health over time.
