
Kiwanis Club of Springtime City Celebrates 53rd Charter Night and Installs New OfficersDale Tindall was installed as president of the Kiwanis Club of Springtime City in Clearwater by Lt. Governor of Upper Pinellas Lou Remz during the club's 53rd annual Charter Night Dinner on Thursday, September 24, at the Clearwater Country Club. Also installed were president elect Christy Flees, vice president Frank LaMagna, treasurer Kay Skelton, and secretary Jim Ewbank. In addition, the following members will serve on the club's board of directors: Dr. Don Auerbach, Tom Hanley, Cindy Isaac, Daryl Waterman, Doug Williams, Naomi Williams and Roy Workman. The immediate past president is Kat George. She will continue to serve on the club board for the next year. Kay Skelton was given the President's Award for outstanding support throughout the year. Mort Bonesteel who is the Past Kiwanis Governor of Indiana (1981-82) received his 45th Year - Legion of Honor Award. Diane Urwiller was commended for her three year of service as club secretary. Christy Flees was awarded the club's 2008-09 Kiwanian of the Year for her Leadership within Club Administration and numerous Community Service, Youth Services & Young Children - Priority One service projects. Eddie Lee, the Florida Kiwanis District Treasurer shared that the community's real needs must be fulfilled by service clubs more than ever to fill in the gaps - with the focus on the children. David Browder, Jr. inducted two new members into the club. Joe Turner, the only remaining Charter member received the club's framed charter document from Kat George and then passed it to Dale Tindall. Joe stated: "Fifty-three years in Kiwanis was not ill spent. I am appreciative of all the friends I have accumulated over the years and participation in the projects of Springtime City Kiwanis in our community. The club service activities have included the 15th annual free Children's Health Fair - every July, college scholarships for CHS graduating seniors, many school programs from Headstart through High School, 47th Annual Ed Wells, Jr / Kiwanis Invitational Track Meet and holiday gifts to children identified by Isaish's Inn. In addition, volunteer support and direct donations to organizations that benefit children and youth in the Clearwater area. This club will be hosting it's major fund-raiser, Dining with the Stars on Saturday night, October 17. The public is welcome to attend.
