Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisClearwater Beach Library is now open in the afternoons, instead of the mornings, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Don't ask me why, but it is. Maybe they think we'd be more awake by 1:00 p.m. At any rate, they have the same good books, beautiful view, videos and DVD's for us to enjoy, and computers to use. Joyce, our librarian, can still use some volunteers to help shelve books, etc. She does a good job of holding the fort, but you might enjoy being helpful to the community by giving her a hand. The pool is still open, Fridays and Saturdays, for an evening swim, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., thanks to the Friends of The Clearwater Beach Recreation Center and Library. You might say it's the "last swim of summer." Unless you are one of those brave people who enjoy the Gulf at 60 or below degrees. Me, I like the soupy days of August in the Gulf, stingrays and all. The movie of the month at the library is about a man who decides to make his life more interesting and exciting by saying, "yes" to every opportunity that comes his way.....good or bad. It's called "Yes Man" and stars Carl Allen. It will be shown at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, at the Beach Library. Call a friend, make a date, or come make some friends at this Films On The Beach showing. Think about it. What kind of opportunities come your way? I'm not sure Mother would approve. Oh - and our young people can now play Wii, tennis, bowling or boxing from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at the Beach Recreation Center. Wii time for adults is on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.. You can play standing in one place, sitting on a chair, bouncing up and down, if you like. It's the new digital games that are taking both the youth lounges and the retirement centers by storm because it's for all ages. Call your Granny and challenge her to a game. My two-year-old great grandson beat me the last time we played. What fun! Or you can play real tennis on the courts at the Recreation Center, or the ever popular basketball. Tennis lessons are available.
