E-mail sent to Largo Commission - Where is the clock tower?

I am horrified to see the empty corner where Largo's symbol of pride, the Clock Tower, once stood. So much for the elegant holiday decorations and the classic marker. What is going in its place?

To: Dr. Erwin,

The Central Park Plaza area on the corner of Seminole and East Bay is in the process of being developed as a corner entry point into Largo Central Park. This plaza area will feature increased landscaping and decorative walking paths.

The former clock tower and fountain were the subject of discussion at a number of City Commission meetings over the past year. These discussions included reviews of several possible designs which included incorporating a fountain or not, maintaining the former clock tower or removing it, and replacing the large concrete plaza area with landscaping. The City Commission determined after these discussions that the condition of the fountain, plaza surface, and clock tower were such that it would be more appropriate to redesign this corner with less concrete and a more inviting appearance. This work is being carried out through funding from the Local Option Sales Tax program (Penny for Pinellas).
