Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisDid you know that boredom is against the law on Clearwater Beach? Even when strolling our white sand beach or luxuriating in the bouncing waves of the Gulf are not on your schedule, you can learn to dance, ballroom, Latin or Greek style, at our Recreation Center, on Thursdays, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Dancing is not only healthy exercise but most pleasurable. And, if dancing is not your thing, there is always tennis. Actually, if I could still chase a ball, it would be my first choice. I had the fun of being on the committee that first persuaded the city to build tennis courts on Clearwater Beach and spent many an hour enjoying them. Who could imagine a resort area with no tennis courts. Lessons are available, just ask. You can enjoy our swimming pool on Friday and Saturday evenings from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. until the end of October. And Friends of the Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center are working on a fund-raiser that will heat the pool year around. Maybe next year! They're also making plans for computer classes in the near future. Stay tuned, or call and tell them what skills you need to learn. And speaking of computers, there are a number available in the library portion of the Rec Center building for your use. There's also an exercise room, Yoga, Zumba, Hooping 101, Line Dancing and Wii, the new electronic video game that let's you play your favorite sport from a chair, if need be. Bowling is my favorite except I can't seem to keep from bouncing the ball on take-off any more than I can when I try real bowling. Challenge a friend and try out the Wii, Wednesday for adults or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for teenagers. And, of course, if you're not into exercise, there's always books and books and books as well as videos and periodicals with big arm chairs and a fabulous view for your reading pleasure. They're both in the same building, our library and our recreation center, Clearwater Beach's bastion against boredom. Enjoy!
