Local Order Sons of Italy Chapter Celebrates Columbus Day

CLEARWATER - The Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 hosted their annual Luncheon/Musicale on Saturday, October 10, at East Lake Woodlands Country Club (1055 East Lake Woodlands Pkwy, Oldsmar). The event benefited the lodge's charities - Cancer Research, Alzheimer's, Cooley's anemia, and the Daughters of Italy Lodge Scholarship Program.

After a sit-down luncheon, guests were entertained by the Frank Rey Showdancers, a group of twenty youngsters performing a variety of dances, including jazz and Italian folk dances. One of the special guests was Elijah Enage, a 7th grade student of language arts teacher Susan Terry at Carwise Middle School. Elijah read his winning essay "Why Should We Celebrate Columbus Day?" He was awarded $50 and a Certificate of Excellence.

Also attending was Senator Paula Bono Dockery, an outstanding advocate for education.

The Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825, www.daughtersofitaly.com is the Clearwater chapter of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the nation's oldest and largest organization of men and women of Italian heritage.
