An Evening to Savor

Your mouth starts watering when you see the words Columbia Restaurant. Andrew Huse's book The Columbia Restaurant-Celebrating a Century of History, Culture and Cuisine, brand new from University Press of Florida, highlights the memories and recipes from Richard Gonzmart and the Columbia Restaurant Family. Huse has created a book that both stimulates the senses and enriches the mind. Huse has filled his book with hundreds of colorful photos and anecdotes, tracing the history of the ups and downs of the restaurant from founder Casimiro Hernandez Sr. to his great-grandson, Richard Gonzmart.

Andrew Huse will be the featured author at the 17th annual An Evening with the Author presented by the GFWC Clearwater Community Woman's Club on November 20th at 7 p.m. at the Clearwater Main Library on 100 North Osceola Ave. in downtown Clearwater. Huse was raised in Pinellas County, graduated from Clearwater High School and received a MA in History (2000) and Library and Information Science (2005) from the University of South Florida. He now lives in Tampa, where he cooks and writes, sometimes simultaneously. He is also a librarian at the University of South Florida's Special Collections Department.

Using the book and restaurant as its theme the GFWC Clearwater Community Woman's Club's guests will be wined and dined with a sampling of Columbia's famous 1905 Salad, Paella and Sangria. A selection of delectable desserts and coffee will follow the author's presentation and signing. Helping to set the stage, DJ Sam McClelland will entertain the guests with a medley of Spanish music.

This year's proceeds will benefit the Clearwater Library Foundation. A donation of $20 per person not only includes the food and wine but a chance to win one of several door prizes. For those wishing to be a patron of the event, which includes all of the above plus a listing in the program, the donation is $40 per person. A personally signed copy of Huse's book will also be available for purchase at $40 per copy. Advance reservations are suggested as seating is limited.
