
Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art Offers Free Docent Tours on SundaysTARPON SPRINGS - The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art at St. Petersburg College offers complementary docent tours every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Tours include the special exhibition in the Focus Gallery, Prayers in Paint as well as the artworks in the permanent and interactive galleries. Prayers in Paint is an exhibition of seven works on loan from Sister Eliseea Papaciòc and St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Tampa. The icon images include The Annunciation, Nativity, Madonna and Child, Mary of the Veil, Peter and Christ Walking on Water, St. Nicholas and the Pantokrator. Sister Eliseea Papaciòc is a Romanian Orthodox nun widely known among churches in the Tampa Bay area for her work as an iconographer. Papaciòc creates traditional icon images infused with modern revelation that reflect an expression of faith as revealed through spiritual prayer. This exhibition will remain on view through February 7, 2010 The permanent galleries, Artistic Journeys, chronicle the 20th century through the works of Abraham Rattner, Esther Gentle, Allen Leepa and their contemporaries. Rattner was an internationally known figurative expressionist who spent many years in Paris and New York. His work is featured in museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art and the Vatican. The interactive gallery, The Challenge of Modern Art, showcases a full scale replica of Pablo Picasso's Guernica. The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art is located just west of U.S. Highway 19 at 600 Klosterman Road, on the Tarpon Springs Campus of St. Petersburg College. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, with extended hours until 9 p.m. on Thursday. Sunday hours are from 1-5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and free to children and students with ID. Sunday admission is free and docent tours are offered at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. The Museum is closed on Mondays and major holidays. Isabelle's Museum Store is open during regular business hours.
