Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisThe Clearwater Beach Library will be closed beginning on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, until Monday of the next week. The Recreation Center will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and on Friday. On December 7, however, social bridge will resume for the winter months. Get your card decks and your bridge-playing friends in hand for the beginning of another season of interesting card playing. Actually, you don't need either friends, or cards. Just bring yourself. And, if there's other games, mahjongg, dominos, etc. you want to learn, or play, let them know it at the Recreation Center and the "Friends" will see what they can do to get it going. Even better, if you have a favorite game you'd like to teach, that would be wonderful. Volunteer! You'll be glad you did. With Thanksgiving behind us, we'll be thinking, Christmas. If you're planning on giving someone a tennis racket, you might want to include tennis lessons at the Rec Center to get them started off on the right track. If you're looking for the right book for someone special, you'll find good help at the Library, both from the Librarian and in the stacks. It's a matter of a moment to check out a book and review it to see if it fills the bill. For those who love literature, I recommend a delightful new book titled, The Guernsey Potato Peel Pie And Literary Society. Not only is it an interesting story about how the people on the Isle of Guernsey survived German occupation during World War Two, but it is cleverly written and fun to read. Pick a favorite subject; archeology, gardening, story telling, rock climbing -- anything. It's a matter of a minute to find books that will interest the people you care about. You can also check out DVD's, watch them to see if they will make the right gift for someone so when you buy a copy to give you don't have to tear off the shrink wrap and reveal that you've tried it out. And, if the Turkey and all the trimmings sent your bathroom scales into a tizzy, you still have time to work it off, either in the workout room, or by the dancing classes, or even the new one called Butts And Guts workout you'll find available at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center.
