
Clearwater Police Gear Up for "Operation Safe Holiday"Beginning November 25, 2009, and through the Thanksgiving weekend, the Clearwater Police Department will conduct the traffic safety detail "Operation Safe Holiday." As we enter the holiday season, the Clearwater Police Department encourages safe driving practices that will reduce vehicle crashes and the injuries associated with those crashes. Teams of officers will be strategically deployed in areas with high crash rates and/or anticipated significant traffic congestion. Officers will be conducting traffic stops focusing on the following violations:
By promoting safe driving practices, the Clearwater Police Department will seek to reduce traffic crash injuries and fatalities. In 2008, 199,658 people were injured in car crashes and 2,983 people died in Florida. Additional officers will also be assigned to perform focused patrols at large retail areas, such as Countryside Mall and Clearwater Mall, looking for safe driving practices in the parking lots and to prevent auto burglaries, retail thefts, and other crimes of opportunity.
