
McMullen Tennis Complex Hosts Holiday Youth TourneyBy Sandi Fahy
Photo by SANDI FAHY More than 70 youngsters participated in the Clearwater Holiday Local Junior Classic tennis tournament at the Henry L. McMullen Tennis Complex on November 28 and 29. The USTA-sanctioned event attracted players from Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Polk and Manatee counties in Florida. Others came from as far away as Rhode Island and Kentucky to take part in the first match losers consolation tourney. Erick Chall, City of Clearwater community programmer and president of Chall Tennis Management, LLC, was director of the tournament. The U.S.P.T.A. certified instructor teaches all levels of tennis at the facility located at 1000 Edenville Avenue. Dave Teytelbaum of Belleair took home the Boys 18 championship title. Girls champion was Carol Fraley of Tampa. In the Boys 16 division, the winner was Kento Tagashira of St. Petersburg. There were no female entries in that age division. Clearwater resident Parker Hayslett emerged the champion among the Boys 14 entrants. Dunja Kisin of St. Petersburg took first place in the Girls 14 category. Another St. Petersburg resident, Peter Litsky, was the Boys 12 champ. Ava Sowell of Clearwater was winner of the Girls 12 championship. Winners of the ages 10 and under division were James Emslie of Tampa and Sanyukta Gawande of Palm Harbor. Ava Sowell, Dunja Kisin and Parker Hayslett train at the McMullen Tennis Complex.
