City of Clearwater Announces Wreath Contest WinnersCLEARWATER - Clearwater downtown officials are pleased to announce the winners of the Downtown Development Board's 2nd annual Holiday Wreath Decorating Contest, one of the highlights of last Friday's Downtown Holiday Light-Up and Miracle on Cleveland Street. First place honors and the People's Choice award went to Lanie Walker who won $100 for her entry made from items she and her daughter had purchased from St. Vincent dePaul Thrift Store. Cheryl Colledge took second place honors with $50 in prize money and Jeanne Rickett won $25 for third place. The 23 entries in this year's contest, double the number from the previous year, were displayed at the entrance to Station Square Park at last Friday's successful Holiday Light-Up and Miracle on Cleveland Street. Event attendees were invited to vote for their favorites. Bay News 9 reporter Virginia Johnson made the announcement of the winners following the lighting of the city's official holiday tree. "We were impressed with Lanie's entry because she and her daughter recycled used items while supporting a worthwhile charity," said downtown manager Courtney Orr. "It also reflected the theme of entire event." Entries were judged on workmanship, use of materials, creativity and originality. Walker donated her wreath to the city and it is on display at Clearwater City Hall.
