
Save Your Boat, Save Yourself - Boat SafelyUnited Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 11-1 Clearwater announced its 2010 Free Vessel Safety Check Program. Voluntary Vessel Checks will be performed at the Seminole Boat Ramp in Downtown Clearwater and at the soon to be opened Belleair Boat Ramp. Each month on various Saturdays Boat Safety Checks will be conducted at both boat ramps. The first safety check is scheduled for Saturday January 16th from 9 a.m. to Noon at Seminole Boat Ramp. You can also call to schedule a Vessel Safety Check at your boat dock. Life jackets, fire extinguishers, and distress signals are just some of the items that are required by federal and Florida regulations. The Coast Guard also suggests boaters equip their vessels with a marine VHF radio, GPS device, and EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon).
