Dunedin Public Library Programs for January 2010

Adult Programs - Tuesdays at Two Film Program. All films are shown Tuesdays in Community Room A.

  • 1/09 - 10am-2pm: Quilting With Melba Rilott. Sign up at the Adult Reference Desk. A $10 refundable deposit is required.
  • 1/16 - 10am-12pm: Writers Workshop. Dianne Helm, owner of Helm Publishing, will discuss "How to Develop a Story Idea"
  • 1/20 - 7:00pm: The People of Panama Gerry De Tore of the Panama Canal Museum will discuss the people of Panama, in conjunction with the City of Dunedin's Diversity Week.
  • 1/23 - 10am-12pm: Writers Workshop. Dianne Helm, owner of Helm Publishing, will discuss "ABC Building Blocks of Writing Skills"
  • 1/30 - 10am-12pm: Writers Workshop. Dianne Helm, owner of Helm Publishing, will discuss "Queries, Submissions, and Marketing."

Discussion Groups

  • 1/21 - 2:00pm: Great Decisions Discussion Group: Energy & Global Economy
  • 1/26 - 7:00pm: Contemporary Books Discussion Group: The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie

Computer Classes - All classes are in lecture form with demonstrations, and meet in Community Room A. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11am. For more information, call 298-3080, ext 253.

Genealogy Assistance - The Caladesi Chapter of the DAR will assist you Thursdays from 1-4pm in study room 4.

Dunedin Writers Group - Open to serious writers, the Dunedin Writers Group focuses on novels, short stories, children's books, synopses for agents, presentation letters, and more. Meets Fridays at 10am.

Free Medicare Counseling With SHINE - The S.H.I.N.E. Agency of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs offers free unbiased counseling every Wednesday on Medicare and other health-related issues. To make an appointment, call 298-3080, ext 253.

Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas - The Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas, located at the Dunedin Public Library, is looking for tutors. Training is provided. For more information, call 298-3080, ext 242.

Youth Services

  • 1/10 - 1-4:30pm: Sunday Fun Day: stop in the Youth Department for a make & take craft. This month's theme is "Winter Fun"
  • 1/11 - 6:30pm: DYV Meeting: Teen volunteer group meets once a month to plan, assist, and create programs for the youth of the community.
  • 1/15 - 10:30am: Snowballs: hear stories about snow, do a craft, and sing funny
  • snowball songs. Ages 5 & under. Registration required.
  • 1/19 - 6:00pm: Celebrate Diversity Week @ the Library with "Salsa, Anyone"
  • Join Ruth Eckerd Artist on the Road, Blu Feliu, for lessons on salsa dancing. Ages 12-18. Registration required.
  • 1/23 -10am-12pm: Quilting With Melba Rilott: workshop 1 for ages 6-8
  • 1-3pm: Quilting With Melba Rilott: workshop 2 for ages 9-12

Registration is required for both programs.

  • Tuesdays @ 3:00pm: Read with a Furry Friend: read with Cherry or Debbie, the therapy dogs
  • Wednesdays @ 10&11am: Toddler Time: ages 18 - 36 months
  • Thursdays @ 10:30 am: Preschool Storytime: ages 3 - 5
  • Bookstore Hours - Mon., Tues. & Weds. 9:30am - 8:00pm; Thurs. & Fri. 9:30am - 6:00pm; Sat. 9:30am - 4:00pm; Sun. 9:30am - 1:00pm
